The objective of this website is to track my progress throughout the duration of this course. The purpose of ENGL 301 is to familiarize the students enrolled in various forms of professional communication. These mediums of communication include both written and online in a professional and business setting.
We will be exploring the preparation of abstracts, applications, proposals, reports, correspondence and online communications. We shall also be exploring the proper format for structuring emails, texts and online web-folios or profiles.
We live in a rapidly evolving world and communication and clarity could not be more important in the modern office. Employers are actively seeking mobile skill-sets (such as writing or knowledge of web applications). This makes for a very competitive market, typically dominated by those who are savvy in the arts of online communication.
I’m very excited to be learning about the appropriate format for structuring messages and correspondence between affiliates. I think learning how to clearly and concisely communicate with my colleagues will be a valuable asset both when applying for work in the future and succeeding in my field of work.
Learning the difference between a ‘memo’ and ‘message’ is a great example of why this kind of information is relevant today. Not many people know that there is a professional distinction between the two (I certainly didn’t prior to this course).
Another aspect of the course I am looking forward to is that of public domain. Almost everyone is searchable now with the vast wealth of online data we now have available. With that in mind, I will be looking forward to learning more about appropriately branding myself and how I might put my best foot forward across all of my social profiles to ensure success in my future endeavors.
With all of that in mind, I look forward to the later assignments and readings we will be doing throughout the duration of this course.
