Bill-bored? Bill-not.

The thing about billboards is that they’re BIG!  So honestly, it’s just really difficult to ignore them when you’re passing by them.  Unless you’re a nervous driver, prone to zoning out, or a fugitive who must keep his head down and therefore cannot look up and check out anything over his head.  Otherwise, billboards are pretty much fair game for all-out noticing and enjoying.  And since they’re so obnoxiously humongous in their brand promotions and advertisements, you wouldn’t think that companies would want to take this type of sign one step further…WRONG!  A lot of billboards are starting to add multimedia and other 3D aspects to their spaces.  Not only is this insanely cool but it manages to grab the attention of passersby even more (impossible?  never).  Here are some of the best examples I’ve seen so far:

Everyone loves fire! (I’m not a pyromaniac.  I swear)  I think it was such a good idea for Heinz to take advantage of this attention-grabbing quality and promote their new line of HAWT Heinz Tabasco ketchup.  If I saw this billboard, I would definitely be shamelessly drawn towards it.

Here’s another really cool one!

Last Mask Standing

Hey kids, I’m Zarah.  I’ll try and not bore you with my introduction.  So a little bit about myself: I’m hoping to major in marketing so I’m kind of obsessed with cool ads.  I watch A LOT of tv.  And I’m talking about more than some people will understand or even consider healthy.  And even though sometimes I really wish it didn’t, tv means commercials.  Yes, I’d prefer watching the paid programming that I’ve opted out of studying/homework/productivity for rather than some company’s strategy to get me to sell my soul to them but hey let’s face it: commercials are inevitable.  I’ve considered the fact that I might have a mild case of ADD but when I find it within the capabilities of my ever-wandering attention span to stay on a channel long enough to endure through 3 minutes of corporate businesses trying to sell their 50 different brands of cereal to me, I do see a commercial once in a while that I actually enjoy and pay attention to.

That being said, this Koodo commercial that has teamed up with MUCHmusic for some contest is one of THE funniest commercials I have ever seen.  I can’t really pinpoint any one aspect of it that makes it so amusing for me but i just absolutely LOVE it.  The first time I saw it, I wasn’t really sure if I was actually seeing/hearing the gradual change in the appearance & voice of the guy talking, or if maybe all those years of watching Criminal Minds had finally caught up to me (watching the marathons on A&E about serial killers and paranoid schizophrenics is bound to have some repercussions I’m telling you).  But by the very end of the commercial, the only thing that I could think was, “Whoa.”  And if a commercial can make any watcher have that reaction, then I’m pretty sure they’ve done their job.  That and if the person on the couch suddenly feels compelled to go out and spend dinero on something that they probably already have.

Anyway, here’s the link to the commercial.  Hope someone finds it just as awesome as I did 🙂

PS. Watch the mustache.
