A delegation of B.C. First Nation chiefs will be here next week to urge the Harper government to reject BC Hydro’s $8-billion Site C hydroelectric megaproject. The mega project is planning to construct and operate a dam and 1,100-megawatt hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River in northeastern British Columbia. Yet, the dam will have a bad effect on environment and it will flood 83 kilometres of the river and destory farmland and wildlife habitat. Although it’s great to push the advance of world’s economy, it still does great harm to our environment and have a serious effect on farmers and wildlifes. Some chiefs have pointed out that the government can actually operate small projects in area such as wind, solar, and geothermal power.
In my point of view, I personally not support the Site C hydroelectric megaproject. The government only consider the profits created by the project but ignore the negative impacts that have on the people who live in those areas. The project will cause flood which spoil people’s right to fish, hunt, and use the area foe ceremonial purposes. I suggest te government should consider more situations and accidents which may take place in the project and they’d better let everyone vote for the decision.
