Social entrepreneurship is the process of pursuing innovative solutions to social problems. We can also consider it as the process of pursuing suitable solutions to social problems. More specifically, social entrepreneurs adopt a mission to create and sustain social value. Jean-Baptiste Say, a French economist, defines social entrepreneurship as a person who “undertakes” an idea and shifts perspectives in a way that it alters the effect that an idea has on society.
In my opinion, social entrepreneurship is really similar to non-profit organization, both of them create profits for the public and promote and development of society. However, social entrepreneurship reaches this goal by founding a company, the leader can use the rights and power of the company to create profits for public. Differently, non-profit organization makes profits for everyone by holding events like donations or charity bazaar. Non-profit organizations help people by the support from others. Social entrepreneurship can be summarized as Ambitious, Mission driven, Strategic, Resourceful and Results Oriented. Social entrepreneurs are society’s change agents, creators of innovations that disrupt the status quo and transform our world.
