Biography

My name is Zahra Surani and I graduate from Dental Hygiene school in 2008. I have been working as a Registered Dental Hygienist for 5 years. The journey to my education was experimental at first, I did not know what I wanted to do as a career, I was always interested in arts but I knew I wanted to pursue something in healthcare. When I was young I was bike riding behind my two sisters when I became too confident and sped past them, my confidence took a toll out of me when I hit a rock and I face planted on the concrete. You can imagine the dental reconstruction I had to face. From this experience, I decided to investigate in Dentistry as a profession.

I started with Dental Assisting since it was a short course and I could see if I liked the field. After my biking experience and completing the Dental Assisting program I found a love for Dentistry. I knew I wanted to do something that was somewhat independent and I liked the idea of preventative measures, so I decided to go into Dental Hygiene, as that would fulfill both those things. After completing a two-year diploma I have been working as a Hygienist for five years and enjoy it very much. I wanted to further my studies and get a degree and luckily Dental Hygiene Degree Programs were establishing. I have been working on getting my degree for the past few years and am nearing the end of it. English 301 is a requirement in my program and it will help me in my professional life as many dental offices are businesses and require professional and business writing skills and knowledge. My professional goal with Dental Hygiene is to educate and help those who are unaware of simple dental knowledge, mainly those in third world countries. I hope to go overseas and volunteer someday as well as educate as many people as I can about the importance of their oral health, after all, the mouth is connected to the body so when there is disease in the mouth, there is disease in the body as well.

  1. Hello Zahra, I am happy to meet you and learn a little about your experiences – I am also happy you managed to get your website up – it looks great. Now, you need to figure out your Blog page. Normally when you start a new site it opens with a blog page, sometimes called ‘home’ – and this page is where you put ‘new posts’ for your blog, which are automatically posted with the newest post first. You also need to ensure that each of your posts are automatically dated – do you know how to do this? If not, try beginning by asking for some help our on face book page. O.K. Good luck, Erika

    • Hi Ms. Paterson, thanks for taking a look at my blog. I can see my date stamp on my posts, can you not? And are my posts not done right? Because they are on my page when I go to my site. I am just not sure if my “comments” are automatically approved. I will post this question on our Facebook group. Thanks.
