Skills

How to edit this page: Click the “Edit Page” button at the top of the screen then follow the steps outlined here to change the contents of this page.

What to write: Describe three or four of your skills or abilities, linking to evidence of you demonstrating these skills. For example, a GIS image that you made in your Geography class might demonstrate one of your technical skills–using particular software and creating a particular kind of image–while an essay that you wrote for your Philosophy class might demonstrate your written communication and analytical skills. Naming your most unique, most significant skills takes time and deep, critical reflection, so aim to return to this page once or twice a year to make sure it still conveys what makes you unique!

If you’re struggling to articulate your skill-set, consider making an advising appointment with the UBC Careers office.

What to post:
Cross-post any content from your Personal Initiatives or Academic pages that are evidence of your skills.

Images: If there is an image associated with the work that you produced, by all means include it! But ensure that you provide some context that explains the work. Write as if you are addressing someone who wasn’t in your class, and may not even know much about this academic discipline.

The best images are ones that you’ve created–your own photographs or your own drawings. If you didn’t create the image yourself, ensure that your use of the image is legal.
