The data used for this inforgraphic is from the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (CDIAC) website, compiled by Tom Boden and Bob Andres from the CDIAC at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and by Gregg Marland Research from the Institute for Environment, Energy and Economics at Appalachian State University. The data quantifies total carbon emissions expressed in thousand metric tons for each country recorded by year. The earliest year for each country varies. Emissions are broken down into categories; total fossil-fuel emissions, emissions from gas fuels, emissions from liquid fuels, emissions from solid fuels, emissions from gas flaring, emissions from cement production, per capita emission rates and emissions from bunker fuels. Emissions from bunker fuels were not included in the total emission rates. Two other data sets take 2014 rates from the above described data set and rank countries by total carbon emission rates and per capita emission rates.
