Autobiography

I AM: Portrait Poem

I am calm but creative
I wonder about the rain
I hear showers
I see water
I want to be drenched in droplets
I am calm but creative

I pretend to teach
I feel uneasy
I touch ideas
I worry about tessellations
I cry over victimized children
I am calm but creative

I understand reality
I say I roll with the punches
I dream about goodwill
I try to be compassionate
I hope for harmony
I am calm but creative

Welcome

Welcome!

As UBC Faculty Advisor and Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, UBC, Vancouver, B. C., Canada, I’m available for questions about coursework and practicum, to obtain a B. Ed. and BC teaching certificate.

My research interests include issues of music/teacher education, performance ethnography, memoir, women’s life histories, autoethnography, writing practices, and arts-based approaches to qualitative research. My doctoral dissertation was a book of short stories titled Riffs of Change: Musicians Becoming Music Educators. I am a teacher, writer, musician, music educator, and researcher. Currently, I teach undergraduate and graduate students at UBC in both traditional and online contexts.

I look forward to having you as students and making your professional UBC B. Ed. year a positive and rewarding academic and educational experience.

Cheers,

Dr. Karen V. Lee
