Overview
This lesson will be delivered to Year 5 students (North American Grade 4). All students in Years 4 and above have their own school laptops (1:1 laptops) and are used to using them for a variety of tasks, as fully integrated into the curriculum as possible. They all have eportfolios using Google Sites and frequently share documents using Google Docs. In a nutshell, they are fairly proficient online netizens.
Constant discussion for students is the idea of online digital citizenship, our rights and privileges, and general behaviour whether we are online or not. By the time the students hit Year 5 the idea of an online presence and identity is starting to take shape, as Year 4 is much more controlled.
Though this lesson is only an hour long, I would expect that some pre-assessment of their understanding would already have taken place but we will review in this lesson. I would also expect that extension and reflection, with an opportunity to come back to this, would occur in the days following this lesson.
