Dear Student,

We would like to invite you to the 3rd National Investment Banking Conference held on the 11th and 12th of January 2012 at the 5-star Pan Pacific Hotel. NIBC, with the generous support of major Canadian investment banks, is delighted to offer you an unparalleled 2-day experience, focused on the investment banking industry.

This year the conference will feature Mr. Ian Telfer, Chairman of the Board of Goldcorp Inc. as our Gala Dinner Keynote Speaker, along with interactive workshops on IPO, M&A, Private Equity, Hedge Funds, Sales & Trading, and a Trading Simulation. In addition to these workshops, we have arranged many opportunities for delegates to speak with industry professionals at events such as the Career Fair, Gala Dinner, Wine & Cheese, Open Q&A Panel, and evening social events.

NIBC represents the most sophisticated investment banking conference catered to students in North America and one of the best opportunities to learn about all aspects of investment banking while meeting like-minded delegates nationwide. Our ambition is to create a venue that attracts highly-driven students with an interest in investment banking to further their knowledge and build a strong network.

Sincerely,

The NIBC Organizing Team & Board of Advisors

International Students – reminder to take the UBC i-graduate survey!

This message is being forwarded on behalf of James Ridge, Registrar and Associate Vice President, UBC Enrolment Services:

 Dear International Graduate Students,

Just as you receive regular feedback from us as you progress through your studies, we need to receive regular feedback from you.  The Student Barometer is your opportunity to tell us what’s working, what’s frustrating and what you think of your university experience to date.

The survey forms part of a wider ongoing study and is independently administered for the University by the International Graduate Insight Group (i-graduate.org).

It should take you approximately  ten to fifteen minutes to complete the survey.

As a thank-you for completing the questionnaire, i-graduate offers the opportunity to win a $1,000 cash prize or suggest a $1,000 donation to charity.

In addition UBC is also offering  four lucky students the chance to win an iPad 2 or $500 in cash. Details are in the survey.

Please click the link for your chance to have your say and the opportunity to win one of the prizes.

http://survey.euro.confirmit.com/wix/p778921112.aspx

Your response, together with the response from others, helps us to improve the student experience for current and future students.   Your feedback will be combined with that of others and your name and email address removed, so that responses become anonymous.

The reporting process includes the text of any comments that you provide.  You are advised to avoid making comments that might enable you to be individually identified.  Further analysis may be done by UBC on the anonymized data and by taking part in the survey you agree to this.

If you want to know more about i-graduate, please go to http://www.i-graduate.org/privacy_policy.html to view their privacy policy and FAQs.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to tell us what you think of your university experience thus far,

James Ridge

Registrar and Associate Vice President, Enrolment Services

Exchange Updates – HEC Paris

We are sorry to advise that  HEC Paris has decided to end their exchange partnership with Sauder. Unfortunately, this means that HEC Paris will not be an option for fall 2012 exchanges. We are disappointed by this decision and only learned of it late last week. Please do not include HEC Paris as one of your selections for exchange.

Registration will open on Tuesday November 15th at 2pm and is on a first-come-first served basis.

You can register for modules by logging into the SSC with your CWL here: There are video tutorials at the bottom left side of the SSC website to guide you on how to register for modules. It is a good idea to log into the SSC ahead of time to familiarize yourself with this process so that you are prepared to register on November 15th.

Registration Video

Updated Periods 1-3 Schedule: MASTER – 2012 – FT Periods 1 – 6 – Schedule – Nov 15 2011

Full time students will have a two week window in which to register with priority, after which time registration will open for part-time students.

∙ Students should look at the specialization sheets to determine which modules to take, and consider which modules are pre-requisites for other modules when making decisions. You will find the specialization sheets here.

∙ Students can drop into the MBA and ECM Programs Office for module planning advice or email theresa.scott@sauder.ubc.ca to set up an appointment.

∙ If a module is full, please email askmba@sauder.ubc.ca to get on the waitlist. Students often change their minds as to which modules they will like to take, and as seats open up in the full modules we will fill them from the waitlist.

Two new special topics modules have been introduced in Period 3. Course outlines for both BAEN 580A-001 and BAMA 580C-001 are available for viewing by following the links below:

Module Name: BAEN 580A Managing Corporate Innovation
This course builds upon patterns of technological and market change, and prior research on innovation and new ventures. It also builds upon the structure and development of organizational capabilities for managing innovation. To make this course relevant for the majority of companies, it mainly focuses on examples of innovation from traditional industries. It would also include guest speakers from successful local innovative companies.

Module Name: BAMA 580C-001 Creative Business Thinking: A Nordic Approach
Creative Business Thinking: A Nordic approach takes advantage of the opportunity to engage students with two visiting instructors from the Copenhagen Business School: Balder Onarheim (industrial designer) Morten Friis-Olivarius (neuro-scientist). Balder and Morten will be bringing a business problem/opportunity from a Scandanavian company as the focus of the studio. This will provide students with an opportunity to compare and contrast Nordic and North American business culture and practices, as well as engaging in a Nordic approach to business thinking. Students will engage in team projects involving the company, practicing a variety of thinking skills and processes.

The FT MBA Module Schedule is attached. Please review the schedule carefully as some classroom assignments have changed since the previous version.

Adding and Dropping Modules

Full Time Modules

∙ Students may add and drop modules (WITHOUT a “W” standing) by the end of the day
on January 9th, 2012 for Period 1, March 5th, 2012 for Period 2 and April 23rd, 2012 for Period 3.

∙ Students who withdraw after these dates will receive a “W” standing on their transcript. A “W” standing does not affect grade point average.

∙ Students should ensure that they attend all class sessions during the first week of classes, while making their final registration decisions.
Exam Period
You will receive the exam schedule via email in week three or four of the Period. Students are not permitted to reschedule exams for any reason (other than medical). The full exam policy can be found on Vista (in the Policies folder)
