Part-time MBA Summer Study Abroad Program – Quick Resource

Europe? Asia? Latin America? Thinking about study abroad opportunities for summer 2012? Wondering how to get started in researching your possibilities and the logistics of it all? Here is a quick “how to” guide.

Step 1: Review our study abroad opportunities on Vista:

Step 2: Review UBC PT MBA student exchange reports on Vista:

  • Great Resource! These reports are full of a lot of useful information: living expenses, registration, quality of learning, and courses offered

 Step 3: Prepare your application – available on Vista:

  • Due Monday, January 9th
  • Proposed Study Plans (1 for each program/school) – please simply list the courses you wish to take and which ones you wish to use towards the IB sub-specialization (if applicable)
  • Essay  – Maximum 1 page outlining why you want to participate on a Summer Study Abroad program and how your selected programs are a good fit for your personal, professional and academic goals
  • Resume – updated

Purchasing Course Reading Packages and/or Textbooks for Post-Core Modules

Some instructors require a textbook and/or course packages for their module.  It is your responsibility to check the outline for each module you are taking to find out if there are any required materials for you to purchase.   

 The MBA & ECM Programs Office strives to post up-to-date course outlines, as soon as they are provided by the instructors.  NOTE:  Please double-check that the date on each outline is for the current year prior to purchasing any textbook(s).  Some outlines may be from the previous year and instructors, textbooks and/or editions may change from year to year.

 Part-Time & Full-Time Course Packages and Textbooks:

 Purchase Part-Time and Full-Time MBA course packages & textbooks* online and choose to have the packages sent to UBC Robson Square Bookstore for pickup. 

  • Go to the Bookstore website:  http://shop.bookstore.ubc.ca/default.aspx
  • Click on the “Book List” icon.
  • Click on “Select Courses”
  • Select the courses you are interested in
  • Once you have selected the courses click on “Choose Books” at the bottom of the selected courses
  • From there you select the books/packages you want and put them into your cart
  • Once everything is in your cart, select “Cart”
  • Make sure choices are all there and correct
  • Click on “Checkout Now”
  • Follow the instructions from there
  • Always keep a copy of your receipt!

 Shipping/Pick Up

There are three options to receiving your textbooks/packages:

  1. If you want the book shipped to the UBC Robson Bookstore – indicate this in the “comment” section (at no extra cost)
  2. If you want it shipped directly to you (at your own expense), there’s that option too
  3. Alternatively, you can pay for it online and pick it up at UBC Point Grey Bookstore. Visit the following link for details on location & store hours: http://www.bookstore.ubc.ca/customer-service/about-us

Lesley Wilkins Service Excellence Award

Lesley Wilkins was an employee with the Sauder School of Business from 1984 until 1993. In her memory, her family has provided an endowment enabling the School to give awards for Service Excellence to particularly deserving employees.

Students can nominate a Sauder employee that they feel have enhanced their student experience.  Nominees must have demonstrated the following:

  1. A positive impact on the Faculty and its employees.
  2. Must be consistent in the performance of job duties.
  3. Must have demonstrated initiative in fulfilling job responsibilities.

New Access Restrictions to Graduate Area at Point Grey

Please note that new key card access restrictions to the graduate area at the Point Grey Campus will begin November 1st at 7:00am. Ensure that your UBC i-card is properly programed in order for you to gain access to the MBA entrance to the corridor. The new hours are as follows:

Door from CA Hall into Graduate Student area:
Monday-Thursday 7:00am-7:00pm: Door will be open access, no key card required.
Monday-Thursday 7:00pm-11:00pm: Door will be key card access only.

Friday 7:00am-5:00pm: Door will be open access, no key card required.
Friday 5:00pm-11:00pm: Door will be key card access only

Saturday-Sunday & Holidays: Key card access required at all times.

The David Lam Corridor entrance will be programmed to key card access only during all days/times.

Awards available to Canadians

Competition Open: Commonwealth Scholarship Plan – United Kingdom

Two types of doctoral award are offered for applicants in any discipline:

  • 12-36 months support toward a full-time doctoral program at an eligible UK university; this is known as a doctoral award.
  • 12 months support for research in the UK toward completion of a doctoral program at a Canadian university; this is known as a split-site doctoral award.
