Reboot Startup Weekend

Hello everyone,

We were excited to hear some of you have been participating in case competitions. Here is another opportunity to extend your network at UBC by working on a weekend-long case competition to help launch technologies developed right here on campus!

Reboot Startup Weekend is a unique business competition that reinvigorates previously developed, promising technologies that currently lack an economic business case. UBC graduate business students develop business cases for these previously ‘orphaned’ technologies developed by UBC researchers. You will receive coaching from prominent Vancouver entrepreneurs and MBA alumni prior to presenting in front of the judges.

Participants have 72 hours over one weekend to learn about a new technology, develop a practical business use case for the technology, and pitch their plan to a panel of judges. The top team will receive a cash prize, and the winner takes home the coveted Reboot swag! This competition allows students to apply concepts learned in the classroom to a real technology, to learn how to quickly work with a cross-disciplinary team, and to experience a condensed version of the work it takes to build and promote a business plan.

Reboot Startup Weekend will take place on Friday, November 3rd to Sunday, November 5th, 2017. A detailed schedule will be provided closer to the time.

Ticket sales will remain open until November 1st, 2017 and can be purchased via Eventbrite. For more information and to check out our sponsors, judges and mentors visit this website: http://rebootstartupweekend.squarespace.com/

Have a great weekend!

Clement

Student Spotlight: Nibeer

If you want to meet professionals outside of Company Information Sessions, try Sharpr. Hear from Nibeer who’s had success with it so far:

“Its like LinkedIn and Tinder had a baby! An easy to use app to find like-minded people in Vancouver. I have used it to make a couple of successful connections already with people interested in similar professional and personal pursuits. This is not the usual ‘I-am-looking-for-a-job’ cold call, but more about just connecting with other people to build your professional and personal network. Like they say, your network is your net-worth!”

Career Centre Staffing Announcement

We’d like to share with you that Jesse Grimaldi was recently promoted to a Manager, BCom Careers position at the Career Centre. They will no longer be supporting the MBAN program as they move to supporting UBC Sauder’s undergraduates. Jesse’s last day with the MBAN team will be on November 1st.

“One of my proudest career ‘moments’ has been supporting Sauder graduate students on their career journeys – in the classroom in support of career development programming, and through 1:1 career coaching. I’ve been so inspired to witness the inaugural MBAN cohort’s professional growth already in these first couple months of the program, and I wish the MBAN 2018 class all the best throughout these transformative next few months! Keep in touch – reach out and connect with me on LinkedIn.” – Jesse Grimaldi
