So I was watching Casino Royale last night. An installment in one of my favourite movie franchises, Jame Bond, in which Daniel Craig plays Bond for the first time. Throughout the movie I noticed how Sony, Ford, Aston Martin,Tom Ford and Omega cleverly placed their products to catch the audience’s eye. I think that this form of marketing is ingenious because it is subtle, effective and looks good. It plays off the fact that James Bond, a man that every man wants to be, and one that many women want, is using the aforementioned products throughout the film. Bond even made a Ford look classy as he’s rolling through the Bahamas! After seeing Bond use Sony products throughout the movie to track down his enemies and get his Omega watch complimented by Vesper, (Eva Green), its hard not to go out and buy a Sony laptop and an Omega watch. I’m quite sure product placement occurs in many other movies and franchise productions, but I think the effect to which it’s used in James Bond films is very effective. When I browse through Sony stores I can even find the same products he used in the films with their respective “007” branding. How cool is that!

Ralph Lauren Advertising
I was browsing around online last week and bumped into this video on Ralph Lauren’s website: http://www.ralphlauren.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=2885938&ab=ln_men_cs_purplelabel&cp=2885938.
What I love about Ralph Lauren’s advertising campaigns is that they perfectly embody the brand’s core values and that the viewer can easily determine the typical clientele. Their video clips are short, to the point and leave the viewer in awe. After watching the clip I would go to a Ralph Lauren store just to buy the suit the model had on! Ralph Lauren’s advertising through video clips clearly convey the lifestyle of its customers. The clip suggests, that its core customers would be young adults in their 20’s who are members of higher society. At the same time all of the models are racially diverse, suggesting Ralph Lauren’s broad appeal. All in all, I love the brand’s marketing, and it has bought me over as a loyal customer through their powerful print and video marketing campaigns.
