Challenge
Claude.ai now allows users to define a Custom Writing Style that controls the tone, voice, and personality of its responses. This feature is particularly useful in an educational context—whether you’re creating a voice that sounds like a “friendly TA” or one that mimics your own instructor style.
You can also use this tool to help students experiment with writing tone in creative writing or communications courses. In this challenge, you’ll define a style, apply it in a teaching scenario, and tweak it based on output quality.
Instructions
- Open Claude: Go to https://claude.ai and sign in.
- Click the settings button under the input field and select Use Style
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and select Create and Edit Styles and Create Custom Style
- Either upload a document with the style of writing or describe the style
- Click Generate Style
- Try It Out:
- Open a new chat with Claude.
- Choose your new custom writing style from the menu located under the input field
- Ask Claude to write something like: “Write a welcome message for my first-year sociology students.”
- Tweak and Improve:
Return to settings and refine your style based on the output.
