Save China’s Tigers

Save China’s Tigers, is a UK based project that aims to return captive tigers back into the wild.  According to Swiss scientists Urs and Christine Breitenmoser, a cat’s behaviour depends on three factors: genetic embedding, individual learning, and tradition (Save China’s Tigers).  Tigers must start their rewilding training when they are young.  This is the stage where they are young enough to learn new things.  Save China’s Tigers only returns captive tigers to the wild from second generation onwards.  Most of the cats they originally take in come from zoos, which have lost all ability to hunt or survive in the wild.  Save China’s Tigers has a privately owned reserve of approximately 350km² in South Africa.  Not only does it have a large area for its group of tigers, but they recently added a breeding center in hopes that some of their tigers may breed.
