Hello, my name Alex MacDuff.
I am a current Master’s student in the Earth & Environmental Sciences Program at UBC Okanagan, working with Dr. Bernard Bauer.
As a fluvial geomorphologist, my research interests tend to focus on the physical dynamics of riverine systems and the associated ecological (e.g. fisheries habitat) or social impacts (e.g. flooding hazards). I previously got my B.Sc Honours in the Earth & Environmental Sciences program at UBC Okanagan, with my thesis project being an “An Assessment of Sockeye Salmon Habitat Potential in Lower Vernon Creek, British Columbia”.
Outside of academia, my professional career work as a GIT (geoscientist in training), has involved work with the BC Conservation Fund and the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations, and Rural Development, with an emphasis on modeling and monitoring stream temperatures in the Thompson Okanagan Region.
This passion for the riverine environments comes from growing up as passionate fly-fisher angler & canoeist in the mountains of Southern BC and Alberta. When the river and lakes are frozen you can find me at the ski hill or editing photos.
