Organizers

Kathryn E. Shoemaker, PhD., is the illustrator of forty books for children. She has broad experience as an art teacher, curriculum specialist, filmmaker, fund raiser and picturebook academic. She teaches courses on children’s literature at UBC in LLED and the iSchool.

Bonnie Tulloch is a candidate in the Master of Arts in Children’s Literature Program. Her research interests include nonsense poetry and Canadian island-adventure fiction. She is currently completing a thesis on Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, JonArno Lawson, and Dennis Lee, in which she examines how their nonsense verse fosters critical literacy.

Kristy Woodcock is a librarian, storyteller, and the curator of The Illustrated Alice exhibition at UBC Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections. Kristy is currently working on her Master of Arts in Children’s Literature and writing a verse novel for children. She is a lover of nonsense and unreason, and can recite Lewis Carroll’s “Jabberwocky” by heart.
