Email Response

Dear Claire Flater.

Thank you for the email and interest in working together. I am thrilled at the prospect of working together with you. I agree with the group’s goals of working well together, handing assignments in on time and dividing work up equally. I think that your skills in organization and self-motivation will be beneficial in our successful completion of the course.

I have not yet found a team to work with and think that you and I would be a great fit. I have also expressed interest in working with Amela. Perhaps the three of us can communicate and form a team. Please get back to me with any further questions or comments.

Best Regards.

Allison Grifone
Student
University of British Columbia (Okanagan Campus)

Attention: 301 Technical Writing Class

The purpose of this application is to demonstrate my expertise, skills, and overall candidacy to be accepted into a professional writing team.

I am studying psychology at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan campus). I have had a natural inclination towards humanities, especially Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology. Over my academic journey, I have always been an active participant in peer mediating positions throughout my middle- and high school.

I am interested in obtaining a Master’s degree and pursuing a career in clinical counselling, a branch of psychology but more practice-oriented. My interest in this field stems from my passion to serve others and enable them to make the best of themselves. This objective has always been an integral part of my personality as I have always wanted to go out of my way and help people. Having a profession that allows me to do that is nothing short of a dream come true.

As far as writing is concerned, I believe I possess a remarkable ability to research and write. Perhaps this has more to do with me being an organized person who likes having everything planned ahead instead of being spontaneous. This makes my writing very organized, structured, and well thought out. However, I consider creative and informal writing as my weakness, something that I should focus on improving.

My learning philosophy is rather simple. It involves dedicated and rigorous learning in an organized and structured way. I think learning should be a dynamic and effective process. Efficiency is prime, which means maximizing learning with dedicated effort. If I have to learn something, the first thing I do is organize a learning schedule, setting aside a minimum number of hours and allocating those hours effectively in learning the curriculum or course content. For me, structure, effective time allocation, and efficiency are some of the most crucial factors for learning.

If you believe my expertise and writing abilities will make me an important part of your professional writing team, please email me at allisongrifone@live.com

Sincerely,

English 301 Technical Writing (Summer 2021) Course Introduction

About English 301:

English 301 is an upper-level technical writing course offered to students through distance education at the University of British Colombia. Not only do we work alone as one might think for a course that is delivered online, but we also work in coordinated groups and of course with our instructor Dr. Paterson. We will engage in peer review exercises, practising new techniques in various exercises, analyzing documents, preparing abstracts, proposals, blogs, and so on. The aim of this course is to learn proper methods of professional communication in a variety of different environments. In this course we utilize our newfound skills to actually build a business profile of sorts for ourselves to accompany a professional resume. We will develop the necessary skills of written communication from a professional standpoint.

My Expectations:

I was quite excited to enroll in this class and had to keep my eye on it to wait for a seat to open up first week. In my opinion the course objectives are pertinent in a smooth transition for graduates leaving university and venturing off into the business world. Furthermore, to know how to properly communicate in different situations among different groups of people is extremely beneficial in everyday life outside of a business environment. I am personally looking forward to the challenge of this course. I am eager to learn the guidelines, expectations and social norms when it comes to producing professional written communications in the forms of email, proposals, reports and resumes etc. My hopes are that this course will leave me feeling much more prepared for what lies ahead post-graduation in my capability to communicate in a number of professional settings.
