Lesson Plans

This is a longterm project that I developed for Science 10 students. My aim in designing this project was to have it act as an inclusive review of all learning outcomes in the Science 10 Biology Unit.

My students’ understanding of ecological concepts flourished using this project outline. During the conference all students accurately presented information on different biological processes, such as natural selection, predator-prey interactions, long-term climate patterns, ecological succession and biomagnification to name a few.

The one modification I added to this project that is not explicitly stated in my outline was the use of regular check-ins to make sure students were comfortable with their research and on task for their project development. An example of my check points is as follows:

  1. April 8th – Provide the name of your species.
  2. April 10th – Provide 3 academic references.
  3. April 14th – Present your presentation outline.
  4. April 16th – Present the final draft of your poster/oral presentation.
  5. April 20th – Present to the class.

See the attached file, which describes my rationale for implementing this project and provides a practical hand-out and marking rubric you can use to implement this project in your classroom.

*Note that your rubric may need to be modified for ELL instruction, as the use of notes during the presentations are an essential tool for non-native English speakers.
