It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Since the holidays are coming up, I was wondering which brands had some cute and funny advertising regarding to Christmas. So as I was searching, I found that M&M’s has one of the best advertising campaigns; I’m not just saying that they make great holidays commercials, I’m saying that the make great advertising in general. A person that used to work in Mars once told me that the campaigns used for M&M’s have won several awards. And I honestly don’t disagree with this because I think they do a pretty good job when it comes to showing the red and yellow M&M’s. so I hope you like this little commercial I found!

Another company I think has also great Christmas commercials is Coca Cola. Everytime I watch one of these commercials I get really happy because I know that the holidays are here. They also send you a message, or at least that’s what I think, they try to make people happy. But they never forget telling you that Coca Cola is giving you this happiness. So I think this is one of Coca Cola’s greatest holiday commercial. Hope you enjoy it!

Clear View…

As I went to the grocery store this weekend I walked down the alley of cereals. I wanted to get my regular cereal box of Raisin Bran and I grabbed it from the 2 floor from the stock. As I was walking I realized that most of the “healthy” cereals most likely to be on the top drawers, while in the lower ones I saw all the sweet cereals. I now know that this is all about marketing! Do you know why? Children are small; therefore their eyes are focused on the bottom drawers, so as the walk down the aisle they can see all the cereals that have animated images that grab their attention. I found the cutest cereal commercial. It’s about how Fruit Loops targets both adults and children.

I’ve never seen this commercial; however I found it really interesting because it’s an innovative way to grab consumer’s attention. So when the children walk down the aisle of cereal and see the Fruit Loops box, they would remember the commercial and might tell their parents to buy it.

 I think that marketers have a great view because they know exactly where to locate the products. They know they are not going to place chocolate chip cockies in the highest level of the drawer because children are not going to be able to see them!

Package! Package! Package!

I recently bought a perfume in a Department Store. I just grabbed it because the package was really pretty, so I got a curious on the product. Once the lady in the counter showed me the perfume and let me smell it I really liked it. All the smells it had were great that I decided to buy it. However I wouldn’t have purchased this perfume if I hadn’t been attracted to the package. I realized that the package was the first thing that attracted my attention, if it wouldn’t have been for this I might never have purchased this perfume because I didn’t really have any other information of it.

 

My point is, I believe that the package represents a lot to the image of the product! Packages must grab the customers’ attention, in my case the beautiful package of the perfume said “buy me”. I personally believe that companies should not only rely on their brand, because if they create a new product but their package is not that attractive, then customers might not be too optimistic to buy it.

However packages must also be friendly and also create value to the customer. While I was reading the book I saw what Chips Ahoy did and found it pretty interesting! Their package is attractive, BUT it also has a sealed package for the cookies to keep them fresh. I believe this new way of trying to provide higher quality to the consumer is really great. You can also take a look at other products that have great packages and create more value to the costumer, Chips Ahoy is not the only one.

Great slogans…

I happened to find some slogans about different companies while I was doing some research on the Internet and found them pretty interesting. Some of these companies are well positioned in the market because of these phrases. Every time I go to a McDonald’s I see their slogan “I’m loving it”. I find it amazing that they use this phrase all around the world. It’s great how a company can come up with a set of words that make it easy for us to identify with them. Here is a video clip in which a famous artist, Justin Timberlake, sings about McDonald’s and its “I’m loving it” phrase.

Another slogan that I find really interesting is “Because I’m worth it” of L’Oreal. Every time I see a commercial I realize that some women, (including me) buy some of their products because their marketing is approached to women who think they can buy a set of creams that are a little bit more expensive than some regular ones. So they make the consumer believes that they should buy the product because it gives you the results you expect according to the money you pay. Eva Longoria is one of L’Oreal’s images that promotes their famous slogan!

Another slogan that always attracts my attention is Nike’s “Just do it”. It’s really amazing they way their slogan has attracted many of their customers. In my opinion I think that Nike got a really good idea in trying to make people feel that they can accomplish everything they want. So if you ever try to run a marathon and you think it’s difficul, listen to Nike, JUST DO IT.

I think most companies great slogans… However I believe that some companies have managed to get involved with the consumers in a different way. Therefore they connect in a different and better way.

Being GREEN!

As we all know, green companies are becoming more and more popular. Since people are trying to help the environment, they are reaching and trying to find out new ways to do so. Most of us recycle in our houses, however when we go out we are still trying to help the environment by not using plastic bags or by drinking our coffee from a recycled cup. That’s why I think it might be interesting to mention some companies that have applied a new way to sell their products by helping the environment: Wal-Mart and Starbucks.

In Canada, some stores charge you extra money if you want to use plastic bags in order to carry your products. You see this quite normal. However in my country, Mexico, that didn’t exist until a few months ago. The Mexican government decided to start charging for plastic bags in the supermarkets, this was a big shocker to the Mexican society because we are used to utilize as many plastic bags as we want in the supermarket or any different store. So a famous supermarket in Mexico, Superama, decided to create an attractive bag in order for the customers to buy it and not have to use plastic bags. These bags became a huge hit in Mexico. A lot of people decided to buy the bags in order to contribute the environment, but also because they were cute and chick and people believed that if they had one of these they would look good. Nowadays people use these bags to go everywhere; some people use them as school bags or even as a personal bag. I don’t know whether the intention of the bag was to help the environment or to feel important, however the marketing strategy was effective because everyone in Mexico has one.

 

 On the other hand, another company that uses recycled material is Starbucks. They developed the recycled-content cup sleeve as a way to protect customers from hot beverages, this way people would not use double cupping. So nowadays we all see people carrying their Starbucks with this sleeve that protects your hand but also shows that you are drinking a Starbucks coffee.
