Marketing everywhere

I was reading in Kaylee’s blog about something I have been experience myself and I think makes a great last post. She and I have experienced an increased awareness about what surrounds us. We are now able to look at everything with another perspective, our eyes see now more details everywhere because we know have the knowledge of the other side. We have seen through the marketing people’s eyes. That’s the most important lesson I took about this course. I will find myself looking up the details on how to do a SWOT, long forgotten, but this teaching will always influence me.

A discovery I made recently were Google advertisements in their e-mail provider Gmail. As if I had a blindfold before, I noticed a link to this page. I had probably been absorbing ads on a daily basis without realizing and now they tell me they’ll do a better job with it. Now those ads are supposed to fit my tastes.

That opens 2 discussions, the first and obvious is they are recollecting and compiling data about me. Thanks to technology they have invented the perfect salesman that knows about your hobbies, your family and your pets through the keywords you put on almighty Google. And they don’t have to pay him, monitor him or give him vacations.

The second one is more of a stretch but you can clearly see they actually want me to notice those ads. My subconscious might have been absorbing information about how great some products are but because I didn’t really care about them in the beginning it didn’t work very well. Now, according to the video, I will be shown sweet camera deals. Oh dear, that will sure impact my savings, you already know I love cameras so making it easier for me to buy them can only mean something good for them, in the shape of a purchase. No matter how aware I become, they find new ways to get into my head. I’m doomed.
