For this assignment, I continued to build on the structure I developed for my last assignment.
I found this to be quite challenging. As I mentioned before, I decided to create and Art History course, even though of have limited knowledge of Art History. As I began to write the actual content for the course, I began to really recognize my limitations. I know there are likely gaps in the content I wrote for my module. I’m hoping I provide enough information to give my course users a sense of how the course has been designed to provide students with information and the assessment tools used to demonstrate their competency.
For me, the project has re-enforced that subject matter experts and educational technology experts should work together to develop well organized and structured courses.
I was also quite amazed at how few good educational videos for famous neo-classical paintings there are (perhaps there is a site that I’m not aware of which houses excellent Art History educational content). I was able to find a few, which I added to my course. Many of the works I discussed are housed at the Louvre. I was surprised to see that they had little in the way of educational materials. I then began looking at other Art Museums and also discovered little in the way of educational resources (Musee-Orsay for example). I was encouraged to see that the MOMA has a site for K-12 teachers, but was also disappointed to see that they have little for University level educators. I understand that this may not be their prerogative, but I see it as a lost opportunity for outreach and student engagement. I like to think once I’ve completed my studies with the MET program, I may be in a position to help fill this gap.
