Cover video analysis Mishelle

One of the main reasons I decided to take this course was because of the project. I had never really done much group projects aside from the usual presentations or seminars here at UBC, so when I learnt of the challenge that involves actually experiencing the production of a music video with a team, I was excited. I took on the roles of the photographer, coordinator, and film editor. Needless to say, as a sociology major with an interest in kpop, I have no prior experience in neither. I knew it would be difficult, things might happen differently on the day of, plans get shuffled around, our team may have different schedules, in short, we have to all compromise for each other, but I can imagine how hard it would be for idol groups and their production teams to get ready for a shoot.
I learned a few things during the shooting process, first thing is that I definitely should have checked the weather and tried a few takes beforehand. Secondly, the more time the group spent dancing together, the better everyone was. Some of my teammates were naturally expressive in front of the camera, others were shy but continued to show excellent spirit despite the difficult routine they each learned individually. Near the end of the shooting process, I was extremely thankful for my teammates, our planned 3 hour shoot easily turned into 5. Lastly, time management and always click save. I learned editing bit by bit while piecing our project together. My team entrusted me with the editing although I have nothing to offer aside from my enthusiasm. They were all extremely understanding when I couldn’t produce as well of a product as I had hoped. It was a great experience for me to take on the production team’s point of view in the art industry, good music production really is built on painstaking effort of every party involved.
