I’m Simon-Luc Noël, a 4th-year undergraduate student in his 6th year of studies at the University of British Columbia, working towards a BSc Combined Major in Oceanography and Biology.
My main research interests involve:
- The impact of climate change on ocean ecosystem structures and biodiversity;
- Quantifying commercial fisheries impacts and working towards greater equity and sustainability in fish harvest;
- Identification of prime areas for the establishment of no-take marine reserves;
- Effects of macropredatory fish harvesting on community structures.
Obviously, my future revolves around conservation of the ocean somehow, and I’ve got a wide variety of interests in this field. Through the exercises of this class, and the careful study of the issues the ocean faces, I hope to see this purpose crystallize!
