RE: Why Are Consumers Willing to Pay More for Eco-Friendly Products?

Posted by in Uncategorized

In response to Tsz Ching‘s blog post with regards to the higher costs of manufacturing products that are healthier for the environment. I agree with her statement that consumers are finding fashion “trends” in these products. In using environmentally friendly products, consumers feel better when using or wearing them. As consumers, we are brand conscious, and to be an educated consumer involves understanding where the goods comes from, and all of the processes that go into their manufacturing and shipment. The more educated that consumers become about the product they are using, the more likely they will be to purchase eco-friendly products. Consumers drive the market, they create demand for goods that are cheap, so companies seeking to make profit (in most cases) fulfill these wishes. However, as people and companies gain a better understanding of what really makes up the product they are demanding, this demand will shift towards more ethically, and environmentally conscious products. By acknowledging that low cost is not a sustainable option for business and the planet, consumers as a whole will shift towards these trends. In the future, hopefully these “trends” will become the standard for operating businesses.
