English 301, Technical Writing, distance education course at the University of British Columbia (UBC) covers a wide range of topics surrounding technical issues encountered in business, professional, and technical contexts. The course is intended for students that are in a variety of majors such as science, education, and health sciences. The course is designed to aid students in developing the necessary skills to communicate as a professional and technical writer adequately. The course is divided into four units each consisting of three lessons, where students will practice creating abstracts, proposals, an online portfolio, reports, and correspondence. To develop proficient editing skills, students will reflect and edit their writing, as well as peer review other classmates’ documents.

My expectations for the course include developing professional writing skills that are appropriate for a variety of contexts and audiences. I expect to create a professional online profile that I can use for my future career endeavours. Lastly, I hope to apply the technical writing skills I learn in this course, to my future academic experiences in the field of Clinical Psychology.
