Invitation for Applications – Early Career Nurse Leader (ECNL) MSN funding opportunity (Sept 2025)

Dear Term 5 BSN Students,

We are pleased to announce an Early Career Nurse Leader (ECNL) funding opportunity available for a student entering the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program in September 2025. There are funds available to support one ECNL student this upcoming year.

This funding provides $8,000 per year for two years ($16,000 total).

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants should submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) outlining their goals for pursuing their MSN directly after completing their BSN.

We encourage applicants to highlight:

  • Their motivation for pursuing an MSN at this stage
  • Their leadership potential and commitment to advancing nursing practice
  • Any relevant achievements in community, academic, or professional contexts

Applicants may provide a brief (max 100 word), optional statement about financial need for this funding opportunity.

GPA/academic record will also be taken into consideration for this opportunity.

Please note that this funding cannot be extended if a student takes a leave from the program.

CEIH Indigenous Student Awards – Deadline: April 14, 2025

The Centre for Excellent for Indigenous health is excited to announce that applications for the CEIH Indigenous Student Awards are now open! These awards are designed to support Indigenous students (undergraduate or graduate level) pursuing studies in health-related fields at UBC. Currently CEIH has 5 awards that are available to apply for on our website: https://health.indigenous.ubc.ca/students/awards/

Award Details:

  • Eligibility: Indigenous students (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) enrolled in health-related programs at UBC. Currently enrolled as a full-time student (24 credit) at UBC Vancouver in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Application Deadline: April 14th, 2025 at 11:59PM Pacific Time

These awards are a wonderful opportunity to receive financial support and recognition for students’ hard work and dedication to their studies and community.

BC Scholarship Society Indigenous Student Award – Application Deadline is 4:30PM (PST) on April 2, 2025

The BC Scholarship Society offers Indigenous Award programs for students pursuing post-secondary education in BC. They are available to students who identify as Indigenous – First Nations (Status or Non-Status), Métis or Inuit. All are renewable in order to provide sustained funding over multiple years.

Application Deadline is 4:30PM (PST) on Wednesday, April 2, 2025

Skills for Hope Foundation Scholarships – Application Deadline is March 17, 2025

Since 2017, Skills for Hope Foundation have proudly provided scholarships to dedicated students who demonstrate not only academic excellence but also a commitment to their communities and a strong work ethic. Their scholarships are designed to support individuals who have overcome challenges to achieve their academic and vocational goals, demonstrating resilience and determination along the way.

Every year, Skills for Hope Foundation offers post-secondary academic and vocational scholarships to support the success of promising young individuals living in Canada and attending Canadian institutions to assist students with offsetting the costs of their education.

BSN Summer Student Research Program

The objective of this program is to strengthen nursing research capacity by providing research training opportunities for undergraduate nursing students at UBC-Vancouver.

Undergraduate research studentships are available to BSN students at the UBC School of Nursing. Selected students will be awarded a 4-week, full-time studentship in August 2025 (or equivalent hours to be completed before Sept 2025), and will receive a $3,000 stipend. To be considered, students must be full-time students in the UBC BSN program.

Interested BSN students are asked to email their resumé, cover letter, and preferred project(s) to merrilee.hughes@ubc.ca by March 19, 2025.

Health Volunteer Opportunity with Special Olympics BC on March 8th

The Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Team is looking for Volunteers to help delivering free health screening for people with intellectual disabilities.

The Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program addresses the unique issues that many people with intellectual disabilities face when accessing health care and communicating their needs. Through Healthy Athletes, Special Olympics trains volunteer health practitioners to deliver free health screenings and education to people with intellectual disabilities. Healthy Athletes screenings lead to referrals back into the health care system, to ensure the individuals get the treatment they need.
