Candidates are to be nominated by their fellow students and nominations will be reviewed and adjudicated for mid-May by the BSN Awards Committee.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS – Gift Card! – Feb. 8, 2024 – 2 Locations

The Department of Physical Therapy at UBC is in need of volunteers for an upcoming Master of Physical Therapy exam. Volunteers will receive an Amazon gift card, as well as snacks and refreshments on the day:
Thursday, February 8, 2024 at your choice of one of two locations:
  1. First floor lobby of Friedman building (2177 Wesbrook Mall, Vancouver, BC, V6T 1Z3) – UBC Campus (approx. 7:30am-4:30pm, lunch is provided)
  2. Second floor of City Centre 1 building (13737 96th Ave, Surrey, BC, V3V 0C6) – across from Surrey Memorial Hospital (approx. 7:30am-12pm)
Volunteers will participate as pretend patients and have an opportunity to experience a physiotherapy assessment (‘patient’ training will be provided on the day of the exam).

·                Confirmation that you are available for the whole exam duration on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at one of the two locations

Camp White Pine Job Opportunity

Call for submissions: vaccine education contest

The Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases (CVPD) and Emerging & Pandemic Infections Consortium (EPIC) have teamed up on an exciting new contest that may be of interest to your students. “Explain It Like I’m 6: A Vaccine Education Contest” invites students at any Canadian university to submit a short essay, series of images, or short video explaining an aspect of vaccine science in a way that, as the title indicates, a 6-year-old would be able to understand.
 
The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2024 @ 6pm ET.

PHSA ESN Application Reminder – Closes November 30, 2023

Reminder to RN/RPN students that PHSA is still accepting applications for our Employed Student Nursing program. The deadline to apply is November 30, 2023.

Interviewing has begun for our December intake, so if they are hoping to start work as soon as this December, they should apply as soon as possible. Alternatively, they can still apply now for our Spring 2024 intake.

The programs accepting applications are:

  • BC Children’s Hospital – including Child and Youth Mental Health
  • BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre
  • BC Cancer
  • BC Centre for Disease Control
  • BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services

To qualify for our ESN program students must:

  • Have successfully completed your medical/surgical instructor-led rotation or relevant rotation in your program of choice
    • BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre requires students have completed their Maternity/Newborn Rotation and for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit they require successful completion of BCIT Neonatal Theory 1 and 2 (applicable to BCIT students).
  • Be a student member of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) or are eligible for student membership (they can apply for this once successfully passing interview).
  • Have current certification in CPR

PHSA ESN Program – Applications Starting Soon

Application window opens next week: November 1 – November 30.

This year has seen a huge expansion for PHSA’s ESN program, and they are now accepting more ESNs than ever before, with the only requirement for most programs being that they have completed their Adult Medical/Surgical rotation prior to their intake/orientation date. Please note BC Woman’s Hospital & Health Centre still requires completion of a Maternity/ Newborn rotation.

The programs accepting ESNs this year are:

  • BC Children’s Hospital – Vancouver
  • BC Woman’s Hospital & Health Centre – Vancouver
  • BC Mental Health & Substance  Use Services – Sites across BC

Last Chance to Submit Your Application for Year 4 BSN Student Awards (Deadline Extended to Oct. 10 at 7am)

Dear Year 4 BSN Students,

The BSN Program is accepting applications for a number of University Awards for Year 4 BSN students.These are merit-based University Awards provided to students at the recommendation of the School of Nursing / BSN Program, and the following conditions apply:

  • They are governed by University Awards campus wide policy, as outlined in the UBC Awards Calendar.
  • Undergraduate student awards based on academic merit will normally be given to a student who has a cumulative average of 75% or higher (with no failed courses).
  • Only 4th year BSN students are eligible for these awards (Currently in Term 4 – September / 2023W)
  • In addition to academic merit, these awards recognize volunteerism, community and/or family service, leadership, student affairs, extracurricular activities, and a commitment to the nursing profession or community, and the need for financial assistance.

To be considered for these awards please complete the BSN Awards Competition Application (Link to Survey Application). The survey will close at 7am PST on October 10, 2023. 

You will be required to use the following template BSN program award application list of activities  (also linked in the survey) to provide us with a list of your leadership, service & community engagement activities from over the last 4 years.  Please submit your completed document by following the survey instructions.
