Classical Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAPN)
Classical Association of the Canadian West (CACW)
Joint Meeting. March 7-8, 2025 (Vancouver, British Columbia)
You are warmly invited to a Joint Meeting of the Classical Association of the Pacific Northwest and the Classical Association of the Canadian West, to be held at the University of British Columbia on March 7-8, 2025, in beautiful Vancouver. This will be the 54th annual meeting of CAPN, and a re-institution of the CACW, first founded in 1993.
We welcome proposals for papers addressing any topic related to the study of the Ancient Mediterranean world, broadly construed, including the literature, history, archaeology, and reception of ancient Greece and Rome. Prof. Claire Catenaccio, of Georgetown University, will deliver the keynote address, and there will be a staged reading of a classical play by Thomas Heywood, an early modern English playwright. We therefore particularly welcome papers looking at the reception of Greek and Roman mythology from the 16th-21st centuries.
Proposals for individual papers of up to 20 minutes should include a title and abstract of no more than 300-words (excluding bibliography). Please send proposals as an attachment (.docx or .doc preferred), with your name, academic affiliation (if any), and career stage (graduate student, postdoc, independent scholar, faculty member) in the body of the message. All proposals will be acknowledged, and must be received by November 22, 2024. Acceptances will be sent by December 5. The conference is in-person only with no hybrid or virtual options. Accepted presenters must be current members of either CAPN or CACW; details will be provided with acceptance.
Please send proposals and direct any questions to Toph Marshall at cacwcapn2025@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you in Vancouver!
