As you may already know, I live in Ritsumeikan. Rits is technically part of Totem but for so many reason, we don’t feel included in the Totem compound : we don’t have single bedrooms but four-people-units, we don’t go to the Commonsblock that often so we might look like foreigners to most Totem people because they see each other rather often, especially in the bathrooms or in the dining hall. But anyway, we are still included in all Totem events !
This Saturday was Color wars ! Our RAs woke us up by playing Star Wars’ theme song on the trombone in the middle of the residence’s yard, at 8am. Then they taught us some super awesome dance moves and chants. We all had to wear maroon because that’s the color of our house and we headed out to the Totem field, where all the other houses were reunited. Black for Haida, orange for Dene, red for Shuswap, green for Salish etc… it was a color war. Each house did their chants and dances and to be frank, our show was THE BEST. People even chanted “We love Rits ! We love Rits !” because we are that awesome, and maybe because many didn’t know we are part of them. Next came games against the other houses which were all very fun and the weather was with us that day so it made it even more perfect ! In the end, we all won prizes. I don’t remember who got the “Best house” one, but that just shows how it doesn’t matter.
The event ended at noon and later that day, NEON started.
Not many people attended that glow party because in the meantime, there was Glowchella in the Nest and the tickets were more expensive so there was no way people would waste that money… NEON was the BOMB. We had paint on our faces, UV lights everywhere, and some good music to dance to. It wasn’t anything remixed so that’s what I liked about it. We could sing and dance on pop music and have some great fun ! My friends and I danced until the end of the party (we left a little bit before), but we had so much fun it was worth the 10C$.
Moral of the story : get involved, go to events (if you’re done with your homework), meet new people. It sounds cheesy, I know, but it is totally worth it. I haven’t been very good with this. I ignored every event that I saw on Facebook and ended up in my bedroom planning for someday. But honestly, there is always an occasion to have fun. The fun you have is only the fun you create. Even if you’re in the lousiest party ever, you can still make it worth your time.

Each house at Totem Park will be assigned a bright colour and gather in the outdoor field to battle it out with teams from other houses. C
