On June 23rd, I had my courses registration. Being in the Bachelor of Media Studies program, it was mandatory for me to register in the Coordinated Arts Program (CAP) Media Studies stream. It is a transition year between high school and university. We get to pick between four different timetables and since the program is 18 credits worth, we get to choose 12 credits of electives. In Media Studies CAP, we get courses on :
– Film Studies (FIST 100),
– Digital Media (VISA 110),
– Introduction to Writing for the New Media (CRWR 213),
– New media and society (JRNL 100A),
– ASTU 100A which is a seminar “focused on writing and reading, including both literature and introduction to academic scholarship” (from the course description).

As electives, I chose
– First-Year Portuguese I (PORT 101)
– First-Year Portuguese II (PORT 102)
– Computation, programs and programming (CPSC 110)
– Introduction to developmental, social, personality, and clinical psychology (PSYC 102)

I have a total of 31 credits (Computer science is worth 4 creds) for the session and I’m stoked.

As for the registration experience, I was pissed off a few times when creating my schedule, because I wanted to have large periods without any classes so I could work and earn some money without having to go to class in the middle. Thus, I really wanted a schedule where I’d either start late or finish early. It was hard to fit everything the way I wanted to and how it is now isn’t exactly the way I had planned. But I’m rather happy with my timetable and I’ll see how it goes once I get there !
Other than that, I was warned that the earlier we register, the better because classes tend to fill up fast. I have a friend who’s registration date is one of the lasts, so she’s witnessing the courses she had on her worklist get full one after the other… That is really unfair in my opinion (although I’m not complaining myself because I had no problem). She’s now counting on people’s withdrawal to get the courses she wants. So here’s a piece of advice, create as many worklists as you can and don’t get discouraged if you see your courses getting full. And register into waitlists if need be.
