We recently received our room assignments for the Winter Session of 2015-2016 and BOY AM I SURPRISED !
I originally thought I’d be in either Totem Park or in Place Vanier because that’s where most first-years are placed and there are some age restrictions in other residences… Being 17 when I arrive in Vancouver, I thought they’d put me in one of the two mentioned above even if I’m turning 18 by December 31 of this year… So that was a first surprise.
The second one was that I thought I’d be in a shared room with a roommate (that I had already requested) and my only worry was to not be placed with her. I was imagining all types of people I could be with and all my relatives had their fingers crossed for me. I mean, it’d be pretty stupid to have a school year almost ruined because your roommate isn’t someone you get along with. But hey, no. I have a single room. I wouldn’t complain about it because who doesn’t love having his/her own little place ? But anyway, it surprised me.
So in the end, instead of Totem or Vanier, I am in Ritsumeikan (which I still don’t know how to pronounce), in a four-bedroom suite and though I was skeptical at first, I am so so happy now ! It is basically a mini-apartment you share with three other people ! Oh and did I mention that one of my roommates will be the one I requested ?! I’m stoked man !
I just talked to the second girl I’ll be with and the last one hasn’t accepted to share her info yet. I love how exciting all of this is. I love how special this all turns out ! It feels good because it is new. We don’t know what’s ahead of us, we have NO IDEA, but in my case at least, I know it is going to be awesome. It’s a feeling I have. An intuition. It’s warm and reassuring. But I know I’ll have to fight to get to where I want to be. I know I’ll struggle and feel like a piece of shit sometimes, but it’s like I can see it in my horizon now. Anyway, we’re getting personal in here. Some might find this cheesy, but it feels good in my head and heart so fuck it. I’ll let it take over.
BY THE WAY : when you receive your room assignment, go into the “Before moving in” section of “Residents” tab of the SHHS. There, click on “Contact room/unit mate” and accept to share your contact info (if you want to) so that you meet your future roommates. Of course, that’s only if you want to.
