The CENES Salon: In Conversation with the Vancouver School of Yiddish Translators on Oct 10, 2023

2024 Steiner Summer Yiddish Program

The Steiner Summer Yiddish Program is a seven-week, tuition free, intensive language and culture course in Amherst, MA for students aged 18-29. Applications are due February 5, 2024.

The program offers beginner and intermediate tracks that include three hours of language instruction every morning and an array of Yiddish cultural programs and social activities, including film screenings, workshops, and concerts. In the afternoon, beginner students take a course in Yiddish culture and history, while students in the intermediate track work on the Centre’s ongoing projects in exchange for free housing and a $1,500 stipend. Next summer’s program runs June 2–July 19, 2024.

Yiddish Book Centre’s Fellowship Program

is a yearlong paid fellowship for current college seniors and recent graduates with intermediate or advanced knowledge of Yiddish. Applications are due January 5, 2024.

Talented young Yiddishists spend a year as full-time members of our staff, developing valuable skills and contributing to the Center’s major projects and new initiatives. Applicants should have a strong background in Jewish studies or related fields and a commitment to Yiddish language and culture. Each fellow receives a stipend of $35,000 plus health insurance. The program runs from September 2024 to August 2025.
