Laurie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at UBC. A former special education teacher, Laurie received bachelor and masters degrees in Psychology & Special Education from Oklahoma State University and a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Kansas (APA-accredited) with a minor in Child-Clinical Psychology and a program specialization in Early Childhood Special Education and Families. Laurie completed a pre-doctoral internship with the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology (APA-accredited) with rotations in Lincoln Public Schools and Monroe-Meyer Rehabilitation Institute-University of Nebraska Medical Center. She also completed a Pediatric Psychology Fellowship ar the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She was a faculty member in the Educational Psychology Department at Texas A&M University and the Psychology Department at University of South Carolina where she also held an Adjunct Faculty appointment in Pediatrics before joining the faculty at UBC in 2001. She is a certified school psychologist (BCASP #291) and enjoys doing clinical work and consolation along with her teaching and research. Laurie has supervised over 25 doctoral dissertations and 30 master’s theses and says that working with students on their thesis and dissertation research is one of the favorite parts of her job. She served 8 years as Coordinator of the School Psychology Program and was the Director of the Ph.D. program in School Psychology. After returning from sabbatical in January 2014 and a number of years of program administration and heavy teaching responsibilities, Laurie is looking forward to more time for her research, writing, and working with students in the lab.
