Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. is an American video game developer and publisher founded in February 1991 under the name Silicon & Synapse by three graduates of UCLA, Michael Morhaime, Allen Adham and Frank Pearce. Based in Irvine, California, the company originally concentrated primarily on the creation of game ports for other studios before beginning development of their own software in 1993 with the development of games like Rock N’ Roll Racing and The Lost Vikings. In 1994 the company became Blizzard Entertainment Inc before being acquired by distributor Davidson & Associates. I’m not a game fan but a lot of my friends are a loyal player of Blizzard. Especially the large online game warcraft universe. Different from EA, Blizzard has its own marketing stragety. If you are familiar with EA, you’d know that EA releases a lot of games every year and because of its high production its brand value, it makes a remarkeble profits.
But Blizzard are quite different, it has only a few games since its foundation. But most of its games have become classic and would never be surmounted. Blizzard wants every game to be perfect. Also, it has a very efficient marketing strategy. Such as starcraft 2, before releasing the game, Blizard has released a lot of wonderful details of the game. And this made a lot of players want to play the game very much, but it still took Blizzard a long time to release the game. Then after releasing, the sales are a miracle.
This marketing strategy is kind of challenging players’ patience and we cannot deny that it made a great success!
