iPhone in-class and Clarification

Hi guys!

So, I know we didn’t get much time for the iPhone assignment. I’d like to spend 10 minutes at the beginning of class doing that instead of marketing news. What we’ll do is have you think through the questions tonight, spend five minutes talking in groups, and five minutes talking as a class. I’ve emailed you the questions so you can look through them.

In addition, I’ve put a clarification of new product pricing strategies on Vista in the After-Class Folder. I think that I wasn’t clear on when to use different types of pricing strategies. In addition, on the posted slides I’ve put a description of what a functional discount is. BUT for those who missed it:
Functional Discounts are discounts provided to channel members such as wholesalers, retailers, and the like for carrying the companies product. It’s a trade discounts in that “we charge you less, you help us out” sort of way.

Hope that helps!

There will be candy for both the in-class assignment  and just being awesome.

See you tomorrow!

Class Prep, Midterm Sample ?s, and blogs

Hi guys!

So, I’ve posted class prep for Tuesday as well as the midterm sample questions I’ve handed out in class. Make sure to review the article mentioned in class prep so that you can get some practice playing with STP in class on Tuesday (good practice for the midterm).

I know that blogs are due today, but because the group assignment is also due, I’ve decided that as long as the blog entry is in by the end of Saturday, I’ll count it!

Please let me know if you need any clarification on any of the concepts. I’ll be sure to be available by email or even Skype all weekend if you need me.

Happy Thanksgiving!

In-Class Assignments

With your helpful input, I’ve posted examples of the in-class assignments. These are the answers that I came up with before class. Hope it helps! Feel free to let me know if you need more information or would like more examples.

On that note, anyone else have “I’ve Gotta Feeling” stuck in their head? I do. Though it constantly makes me think of this video:

Happy Weekend!

Teams, Class Prep, and PPT oh my

Great job today! Really fun company choices. I’m looking forward to seeing your group presentations and assignments.

I’ve posted a list of Team names and companies on Vista, as well as the group assignment outline.

The reference library powerpoint is available under class prep. AS IS the class prep for Thursday! 🙂 There is a short article about LiveNation.com, so make sure you at least skim it so you’re ready for class.

We will be resuming marketing news and iClickers on Thursday, so make sure you bring news and your iClickers to class.

Email me if you have any questions!

Notes and Teams!

On Tuesday, we will be forming groups and going over the group project in detail. This means several things:

1) If you are registered for the class, please come to Tuesday’s class.

2) There is no reading for Tuesday, but I did have a quick survey to help me prepare. 🙂

So, when you have time, head over to:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FCLFPWP

Finally, on Vista, I’ve posted the slides coupled with my notes from today’s class on the microenvironment. If you have any questions, please send me an email so I know where I need to clarify.

Remember that what I cover in class might not necessarily be in the book and vice versa, so make sure you’re reading!

Alright, no more! Have an awesome weekend.

Vista and Email questions

Hi!

Great first class. I wanted to clarify that the best way to reach me is through: lea.dunn@sauder.ubc.ca.

Vista should have all of the After Class materials and iClicker registration up and running.

In addition, to prepare for our warm-up “Marketing News”, I’ll post a list of suggested links in the After Class Folder (only suggested as there are TONS of news and blogs out there that specialize in news).

IF you already have a blog, you could go ahead and register it on the course blog (https://blogs.ubc.ca/comm296sec105) under the blogroll section on the right hand side. The password is: mark3ting.

Check back before the end of Friday for Class Prep instructions for the next class!

Email me if you have questions.  Have an awesome weekend!

Welcome to Introduction to Marketing

We have an exciting, busy term ahead of us, so I encourage you to jump in wholeheartedly.

Regardless of the option you choose, marketing is an important element of your professional and business training. For example, did you know that 3 of every 8 CEOs have a marketing background, and that marketing costs = approx. 50% of product costs? And if nothing else, keep in mind that you will eventually graduate with hundreds of other Sauder BComs and thousands of business students from other schools (and that’s just in your grad year alone!). That’s some stiff competition, and many of you will graduate with the exact same credentials. How are you going to stand out? Through effective marketing, that’s how.

So hang on, because we’re going to move quickly. I look forward to guiding you through Introduction to Marketing!
