Although all beings face planetary crisis in the age of the Anthropocene, there is vast inequity in the global distribution of responsibility and harm. Social and ecological justice demand that those most responsible for generating this crisis act in solidarity with those who are least responsible, yet most vulnerable to its impacts.

As we struggle to find our footing in the fight for a better world, it is vital to know where we currently stand.  Locating our position in the external power structures of late-stage neoliberal capitalism is a crucial step towards building the relational accountability that we are so sorely lacking in the Anthropocene.

Working with the Power & Positionality Wheel allows us to locate where we are situated in relation to power structures that have shaped and continue to demarcate the Anthropocene in which one identity is privileged over all others.  Locating ourselves in the present enables us to take a step towards accountability for our (and our ancestors’) actions. It allows us to consciously work together across difference to chart an equitable path to a post-Anthropocene future.
