Mod 1 post 1 – First Nations Technology Council

This technology council is in North Vancouver, my hometown, and they are actively trying to fight for “digital equity” and “are working collaboratively with provincial and federal agencies, telecom companies, as well as partner Indigenous organizations to eliminate the digital divide and create equitable, affordable and sustainable access to digital and connected technologies for all 203 Indigenous communities in BC”. They are also working to educate Indigenous youth and adults around various technology through courses to get more people engaged with the digital economy.

  1. Hi Cristina!

This is really interesting!! I would love to know more about what type of courses they are offering and who the courses are geared toward? Are there some for Educators or are these specific to students and youth? I think this is a great opportunitiy for Indigenous Groups in BC and I’d be interested in learning more…is there a site?

    1. Hi Sasha,

The site to their courses is in the same link that I’ve posted. Pretty neat! It’s mostly geared towards young to adults (not younger kids).

        1. Yes! Neither did I! (New to this whole blogging thing!) I think I’ve made it a bit clearer!

  2. Great educational programs. I hovered over data science and UI design. They are the most wanted in the field. As for now, I assure you that minorities and indigenous employment in these posts is extremely low. Such efforts may help the creation of more diversity technologies downstream.
