The University of British Columbia Educational Studies graduate seminar EDST 513: Current Issues in Higher Education surveys key emerging issues in the field of higher education.
The current iteration of the course (running Jan-April 2024) is taught by Dr. Lisa Brunner. It is organized around the theme of “boundaries” and examines tensions around five interrelated contemporary issues:
- Higher education as an immigration and refugee resettlement pathway: Functional boundaries
- Differential tuition policies: Boundaries of the nation and the state
- Adjusting to technological disruption: Boundaries of the human
- Academic freedom and freedom of speech: Ideological boundaries
- Complaint, disinvestment, and refusal: Boundaries of the possible
