Criminal Minds: Sociopaths, Serial Killers and Other Deviants

Just finished reading this book and I couldn’t believe how fascinating it was. For fans of the show Criminal Minds and true crime enthusiasts, this book provides a link between the cases you’ve seen on TV and real life serial killers and crimes. Like the show, the book is gruesome and visual at times (like this dude that wore the skin of females and made a vest out of breasts and a belt out of nipples). Creeeeeepy.

Like: The writing simplified the numerous cases that were written about and the writing was never dry which I definitely appreciated. Some times true crime books are written like criminology texts which isn’t what you look for when you dig through these books at the library.

Like: The link between the true crime cases and the show. If you’re a fan, you’ve definitely got to read this book

Could’ve been better: While there were mentions to some of the officers that profile these killers, Mariotte could’ve added a bit more in about these BAU profilers. I liked the end where Mariotte shows the difference between what viewers see on TV and what happens in real life, but I definitely wanted to know more about the profilers themselves.

In any case, read this book if you’re interested in true crime! You won’t regret it. Authorized companions to TV shows won’t get much better than this!
