For the past few weeks McDonald’s has had a special promotion for free coffee of any size, at any McDonald’s, and at any time of the day. At first I didn’t believe it, because I kept thinking to myself that McDonald’s would lose so much money if they gave all that coffee away for free! I hadn’t been to McDonald’s in a really long time, but I have been going quite a bit recently because of this promotion and because there is one on campus and I drive by it on my way home which is right about the time of day where I could really use a cup of coffee. Normally I would never stop, but because I heard about the promotion I thought I would give it a try. I didn’t expect McDonald’s coffee to taste bad, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised when I tasted it. I enjoyed it so much! I think that out of all the popular and well-known coffee shops (for example Blenz and Starbucks) McDonald’s coffee is my favourite. It has been a few days since the promotion ended and the price of coffee at McDonald’s is now back to its regular price, but I am still getting coffee from there after school. I now realize that by having this promotion not only will McDonald’s gain many more customers (not that they don’t have many customers already) for their coffee, but they may have also persuaded their rivals’ customers into coming to McDonald’s, and most of the people that went to McDonald’s solely for the free coffee probably purchased something else while they were there as well. By having this promotion McDonald’s is also showing their customers appreciation which will help increase customer satisfaction! I think that this was a very good marketing idea!
