Abstract
New Zealand is a lush and beautiful land that offers a diversity of sites, natural, historical, and interactive, for tourists to enjoy. The goal of our project was to analyze the best route for a cyclist around the region of Canterbury, New Zealand, hitting a variety of tourist destinations gathered from TripAdvisor. Available roads and elevation changes were the most important factors taken into account. We used Network Analysis to produce two routes, one limiting change in slope and the other limiting distance traveled, stopping at each city where there were highly rated tourist attractions. We were unable to use this tool to take both slope and distance into account and therefore do not have a route that clearly shows the most efficient route to cycle across New Zealand. We would recommend using the second route which covered 1,185 kilometers instead of the 2,281 kilometers proposed by our first route.
