Elections

With the new academic year fully underway, the G.M. Dawson Club is having elections this month to vote on the executives for the 2020-2021 academic year. 

Election is on Monday, October 19th at 12:00 pm – Voting takes place during our club meeting via a poll sent at the start of the meeting. Those who are elected for executive positions will be determined and announced during the meeting.

Executive Descriptions 

All executives are expected to:

  • Attend and participate in weekly club meetings 
  • Promote the club and it’s events amongst peers
  • Represent the club to the EOAS department, industry, and to other students

President

Positions: 2 (Due to the unprecedented nature of this year and the challenges that are attributed with this, we will ideally have two Co-Presidents this year) 

The role of the President includes but is not limited to:

  • Act as a liaison between the faculty, EOAS clubs, and geology/geophysics students
  • Provide leadership and support to the other executives of the club 
  • Lead weekly meetings and ensure they run smoothly
  • Consult with Vice-President about the weekly meeting agenda beforehand
  • Establish and ensure goals for the club are being met throughout the year
  • Attend EOAS Undergraduate Club Council (UCC) meetings

Vice-President

Positions: 1

The role of the Vice-President includes but is not limited to:

  • Support the President and help plan the weekly meeting agenda
  • Take meeting minutes and fill in for the President during their absences 
  • Respond to email inquiries or direct them appropriately 

Treasurer

Positions: 1

The role of the Treasurer includes but is not limited to:

  • Maintain a record of transactions involving all club finances
  • Manage reimbursements and keep a record of reimbursements
  • Attend EOAS Undergraduate Finance Council (UFC) meetings; may also be required to attend EOAS Undergraduate Club Council (UCC) meetings
  • Oversee all Undergraduate Activities Fund (UAF) applications from G.M. Dawson Club and give assistance as needed

Academic Representative

Positions: 2

Restrictions: Must have one 3rd and one 4th year student ideally who are both in good academic standing 

 The role of the Academic Representative includes but is not limited to planning, providing, and giving notice of: 

  • Academic related events (speaker presentations, etc.)
  • Tutoring and review sessions for ongoing courses
  • Information sessions for classes in which there is a desire amongst students to have one
  • Advice to students in courses previously taken by academic executives

Industry Representative

Positions: 1

The role of the Industry Representative includes but is not limited to:

  • Act as a liaison between the club and industry (individuals, organizations, companies, etc.)
  • Attend industry events (i.e. EGBC annual conference and AGM) as the club’s representative
  • Organize events introducing and/or assisting with opportunities or potential career paths for Geology and Geophysics students (i.e. Roundup Workshops, etc.)

Social Coordinator

Positions: 2

The role of the Social Coordinator includes but is not limited to:

  • Planning and overseeing a minimum of two social events per term (due to COVID-19 events will be all online)
  • Engage with the community on Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Update and monitor the club website
  • Organize any club-associated intramurals teams (i.e. Storm the Wall, dodgeball, etc.)

Geophysics Representative

Positions: 1

Restrictions: Must be majoring in geophysics

The role of the Geophysics Representative includes but is not limited to:

  • Representing the interests of geophysics students at meetings
  • Promoting the club to other geophysics students
  • Collaborating with other executives (i.e. Industry Rep, Academic Rep, Social Rep) to plan geophysics-related events

Graduate Student Representative

Positions: 1

Restrictions: Must be eligible for graduation (with the intent to do so) that academic year

The role of the Graduate Student Representative includes but is not limited to:

  • Organizing Earth ring orders
  • Relaying any information concerning graduation photos to students through posters and announcements

Second Year Representative

Positions: 1-2

Restrictions: Must be second-year students.

The role of the Second Year Representative includes but is not limited to:

  • Acting as a representative of the club and promoting geosciences to second and first-year students.
  • Promoting events and meetings to second-year EOSC courses
