I am so not a blogger – honestly, i have a long standing mental block about journalling (traumatic childhood experience with a diary and an older sister!) I know I should be posting little bits here and there. Instead, will sum up some experiences with Tool kits over the past few weeks (in separate little posts to avoid that one long rant!). Please let me know if you have any tips for me or if you share any of the same experiences.

Exploring Vista – wanted to, but well, we know we actually can’t… (and now i don’t have the time so won’t)

Exploring Moodle – now that we’re all on our logins, i’m enjoying my exploration of moodle and find the toolkit and relevant links helpful. I’m having difficulty though with three things:

    1. uploading multimedia – any tips and tricks? I’ve checked everywhere i can think of for info… i know it can be done as i’ve seen some examples, but suspect i need different access privileges.
    2. uploading a powerpoint to a lesson – I get ‘could not get data’
    3. still confused about the difference (if there is one) between the course home page and the splash page??

    Exploring DVD creation
I’ve done a fair bit of very amateur dvd creating over the years – with a mac and idvd/imovie and garage band to create the scores it’s all quite simple… best advice i have – keep those homemade dvd short and use chapter markers! I created a cute little video about eelgrass (i know, eelgrass doesn’t sound cute!) that i’d like to upload to my moodle site (see problem #1 above!).

I’m really enjoying the opportunity to play around a bit with various tools – those i’ve looked at before and those newer to me. Am feeling a wee bit hemmed in though by the need to use Moodle – I like moodle but just not sure it’s the right app for me for my purpose… I’m not really a ‘quiz and score’ kind of teacher. Still, the experience of working with these tools is a good one and i’m happy to be able to choose my own topic and target audience for a course design project!
