Dr. Diane Burgess

I am a Lecturer in Arts Studies in Research and Writing. The theme for my sections of WRDS 150 is social media: We draw examples from media studies, psychology, journalism, and political science to explore how scholars approach social media networks, their uses, and their users.

My research focuses on the discursive construction of the film festival and festival circuits in the context of national cinema. Other recent projects include a co-authored book chapter about methodological issues faced by film festival researchers, and an article about the global phenomenon of the Internet Cat Video Festival. I am currently working on a project that looks at the re-framing of national cinema culture in the Netflix era.
