Assignment: Social media portfolio

Details of assignment: 10%

Students are to develop a professional portfolio that both demonstrates their social media capabilities and uses selected social media channels.  Think of this as an ePortfolio that showcases your work and abilities to potential employers. Consider how you appear electronically to potential employers, relative to everyone else seeking the same coveted spot.

The portfolio documents and highlights the best of who you are and what you have done. It also points to your potential. It is a collection of digital artefacts articulating experiences, achievements and learning. It should not just be a list of experiences and qualifications, but rather a collection of supporting documents that make tangible the information in a resume.

Because students are all at different starting stages the assessment and grading will be based on how well you make progress on meeting your own personal improvement plan.

As a minimum, students should aim for an impactful Linked-In profile, that links to other media, including, but not limited to their blog and Twitter account. Some students may elect to use an aggregator like about.me The intention is to allow you flexibility but to encourage you to be ambitious.

Deadlines

  • Jan 21, 9.30 a.m.: current self-audit and proposal for improvement during course (max 2 pages) – formative feedback but not graded. Weak or superficial proposals will be returned for improvement.
  • March 11, 9.30 a.m.: submission of link to your profile and portfolio for grading purposes.

An ePortfolio may contain:

  • An up-to-date, employer-ready, professional, master resume.
  • A writing sample, such as a research paper, industry report or work of journalism that highlights your writing style, analytical skills, and your ability to form a cohesive argument and defend it with effective and relevant evidence.
  • Media content, such as, podcasts, videos, or presentations that show off your creative flair and technical capabilities.
  • Evidence of social media presence and expertise.
  • Reflections of previous projects, work experiences or learning activities, that demonstrate skills that you are acquiring.
  • Scholarships, certificates of achievement or qualifications.
  • Additional material that shows that you are professional, skilled, and hireable.
  • Contact details so people can get in touch with you.
