Danielle, great interrogation of McLuhan. The part about M’s misunderstanding of oral cultures ‘lacking’ writing systems and his belief that the West ‘invented’ writing suggesting that oral cultures don’t communicate-so bad on his part, great on yours. You explained it well and supported it well if I am to comment on your writing style. With that said, I didn’t think of it in that way and noticed how caught i was in western thinking.
I found in a way McLuhan shifted me into a moment of reflexivity and thinking through the ways we process in formation which you mentioned is important as engage with mediums, but that does not undermine ultimately his theory.
It was great to read your thoughts more than what was only said in class.

Very thoughtful reading of _The Medium is the Message_ here, Danielle. You do a great job of measuring McLuhan’s theories against the racist and colonial foundations he builds them on and I like how you express the ways in which his work has influenced the way you receive and process media. Still grappling with what this theory says about your choice to use a word .doc though! Can you explain why you chose to frame your argument in this particular medium?
