Hi All,
Now that am engaged in the process of writing a qualitative research proposal, I have a greater appreciation for the kind of data I need to collect and how it needs to be organized. I typed this interview several hours after I completed it. I did not retain the handwritten notes taken during the interview. It was a rookie mistake. I would feel more confident in my analysis and interpretation if I could reference them now.
This assignment employs the data sheet I intend to use in my research project. The first two sections, Identifiers and Running Record, reproduce data from the Module 2 assignment with additional organizing features. The third section, Analysis, sorts the interview notes according to their significance in providing evidence of reflection and metacognition. I have numbered each note to reference its place in the original interview and to permit future resorting according to other criteria. The fourth section, Reflection & Analysis, details my response to and explanation of the data analysis.
My assignment was too long to cut and paste into the thread so I have attached it. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

Subject: Research Methodology, Reliability and Validity
Another tough assignment… but this time I found the requirement to focus my ideas stimulating. Postings early and receiving feedback was helpful but I worried that some of the feedback directed me towards a question and answer repsonse to the assignment directions. I wanted my response to move beyond the knowledge level to analysis, synthesis, and application. I trust that doing this reflects my understanding of the assignment’s task and the articles’ content. I do feel like I have a better handle on my own research and was able to apply my learning to the dseign of my project.

Subject: Considering the Role of Participant Characteristics
What an assignment this was! I found it difficult to summarize the article and frame my response within the 600 word limit. My first draft was about 1200 words. Now that I am finished, I have come to appreciate how the word limit forced me to really think about what I wanted to say. I had to limit my response to what I thought were the most important issues and to summarize the article so there was some integrity to the whole assignment. This meant leaving out details that were not important to my argument while providing a fair summary of the researchers’ work. Not everything I could have said was worth saying.
