Capitalism: Is it safe? Can we still trust it?

It isn’t news to anyone that the most recent financial crisis hit the world hard. Unemployment was rampant and people began to question the effectiveness of capitalism. Is it really working? Do we really have the right system in place? Personally, I believe that capitalism would work great – if we stopped trying to control everything. For those of us who believe that OB is boring and kind of useless

Think Organizational Behavior is boring? That maybe most of the things were learning in class are terms and their definitions? Well, I can’t say if that’s true or not; it really depends on each individual student taking the class. But I can say that OB has its uses, and it’s evident in the worlds largest social network: Facebook. You’d think that it’s creator (or supposed creator) Mark Zuckerberg, is a social god who is outgoing and extroverted. But that’s wrong. Actually, he likes to be alone an he’s quite shy. His personality often gets in the way of doing good business, which is where Sheryl Sandberg comes in. To read more about Zuckerberg and Sandberg’s relationship, click on the link below. It also shows how the things we learn in OB become useful in the business world.

Gender Bias in Wall Street

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/16/business/16bias.html?_r=1&ref=business

The link above is an article in The New York Times about gender bias in Wall Street, specifically in Goldman Sachs. The article clearly points out and provides sufficient evidence that women are not given the same opportunity and income as males in executive positions. This is a delicate topic as women have already been deemed equal to men in the business world, but are yet to receive equal treatment in the workplace. Although women have already begun to be treated as equals, the main ethical issue is that there is still gender discrimination against women.  Wall Street and its executives are only an example of a major problem in the business world.
