Abstract

Climate change is undoubtedly gaining more attention as we see extreme climate conditions harbouring in all parts of the world. With an ever increasing population, one may wonder if we have the resources to support all of humankind. California, one of the most productive regions for agriculture, is also known to experience droughts regularly. However, with more extreme droughts, our team was interested in how and if this has impacted the agricultural industry. This project aims to understand how agriculture in Kern County, California is affected by drought through a series of maps and spatial analysis. Our findings showed that drought did in fact influence agriculture; however, due to the influence of human activity, the more intensive drought years did not have an effect on the economy.
